National Gallery
The National Gallery
collaborated with NCB through Life
Routes and another NCB programme,
Healthy Care, to use creative arts to
address the five key outcomes set out
in Every Child Matters.
Working with professional dancers,
young people took part in dance
workshops to create an original piece,
inspired by the gallery’s art collection.
A celebratory party at the gallery in June
was attended by VIPs and more than
1,000 young people, and featured the
dance performance.
For the first time in its history, the
whole gallery was open to, and focused
on, the needs and achievements of
young people.
For the young people involved this was a
life-changing experience: ‘It was a really
different experience for us. Living in a
children's home people don't always
give us chances like that and we need
them. Taking part in this shows me I can
do anything I want to. However hard it
is, I can do it. It made me feel good,
made me feel happy. It made me feel
confident.’
